United Way / Community Shares Campaign underway for 2021

The Cincinnati State 2021 Joint Community Campaign pledge drive on behalf of United Way and Community Shares started Oct. 5, and continues until Friday, Oct. 15, 2021.

If it is possible for you to give to the Joint Campaign this year, your one-time gift or continuing pledge via payroll deduction will help provide needed support and assistance for diverse organizations throughout our community.

  • The Joint Community Campaign is one of three annual internal giving campaigns at Cincinnati State, along with the Annual Fund Campaign and the ArtsWave campaign.
     
  • Cincinnati State President Monica Posey serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the United Way Board of Directors.
     
    Cincinnati State Trustee Barbara Turner is the Chair of the United Way Board and Trustee George Vincent also is a member of the United Way Board's Executive Committee.

  • You may pledge to one or both organizations, using payroll deduction or by making a one-time gift by check.
     
  • For both United Way and Community Shares pledges, if you wish you may select specific community organizations to be recipients of your donations. (Organizations are listed on page 2 of the pledge form.)

For payroll deduction, return your completed pledge form by email to Kim Taylor (kim.taylor@cincinnatistate.edu).

  • If you are writing a check, send your form and check to Kim Taylor, Alumni and Development Affairs Manager, Cincinnati State, 3520 Central Parkway, ATLC 337, Cincinnati, OH  45223.
     
  • If you are on Clifton Campus you may drop off your form in ATLC Room 352.

Common Time on Oct. 11 will provide an overview of accreditation

During Common Time on Monday, Oct. 11, Provost Robbin Hoopes and Associate Provost Denise Rohr will provide a brief, high-level overview of the processes required to maintain Cincinnati State's accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

The 30-minute Zoom session will describe upcoming HLC visits, reports, and related activities.

Provost Hoopes said the session also will explain the "dark matrix" of requirements that involve the Higher Learning Commission, the Ohio Department of Higher Education, and the U.S. Department of Education.

Common Time begins at 3 p.m. and is open to all College employees.

September BOT meeting slides & recording posted

If you were unable to attend the Sep. 28 meeting of the College Board of Trustees, the video recording of the meeting is available on the College intranet.

Some of the topics discussed during the meeting included:

  • Recognition of students and business partners who contribute to Cincinnati State classes and activities offered at the Butler Tech Bioscience Campus, where the September Board meeting took place
     
  • The Financial Report from CFO Chris Calvert.
    • The College's net surplus as of August is over $85,000 and the Senate Bill 6 score is 4.7 (on a 5-point scale).
       
    • Upcoming fiscal planning topics include preparing the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, setting priorities for use of capital funds and stimulus funds, and determining tuition rates for the future.
  • The updated Clery Report on campus safety.
    • Campus Chief of Police Dan Reid said that for 2 years in a row, the College has not had any reportable crimes on campus.
    • Clery Reports for each campus are posted on the Campus Safety and Security page of the College website
  • Approval of a 5-year projected academic calendar presented by Provost Robbin Hoopes.
    • Provost Hoopes said the calendar was reviewed by the Calendar Committee and incorporates a Spring Break.
    • He said the calendar will continue to be reviewed annually and adjusted if needed.
  • Approval of a change to the Board's Bylaws to allow continuation of virtual meetings. Provisions include:
    • At least one-third of Board members must meet in-person if others are attending virtually.
    • Each Board member must attend a minimum of 50% of the meetings in person.
  • President Posey's report included:
    • A summary of services and activities that have returned to in-person operations
    • A report on activities of the recently-formed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Council
    • A report on the kick-off of Moon Shot for Equity, a collaborative project that includes Cincinnati State, Miami University, Northern Kentucky University, and Gateway Technical and Community College.

The next Board meeting will be Oct. 26 at the Harrison Campus. The Board will not meet in November, but will meet Dec. 7 at the Evendale Campus.

College Drive will be closed all day on Oct. 15

On Friday, Oct, 15, College Drive will be completely closed to all vehicles, starting at 4 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m., because of the fire loop repair project.

If you (or your students) are on Clifton Campus on Fridays and typically park in Lot A or Lot D, please be aware that you'll need to choose a different parking location on Oct. 15. The parking garages and Lot C will be available.

The missing green cart (seen above, with Receiving Clerk Kenny Gilbert) has returned to Distribution Services.

Kenny expressed his thanks to "our wonderful staff, who located our beloved cart."
